iQOO has made its intention to update the 7 with new versions that run on the refreshed Snapdragon 888+ processor. It has also overtly referred to these devices as the "8 series", suggesting that there is to be a Pro variant this time.
The devices in question have been rumored to have new "E5" display technology, a detail iQOO has also now set in stone. The brand has not entirely clarified this term, although it is thought to be a successor to Samsung's high-end E4 panels from earlier this year.
iQOO has yet to actually mention this display-maker in relation to the upcoming E5 screens, although they are also slated to have 2K resolutions, with 517 pixels per inch (ppi). Meanwhile, other leaks suggest that the new panels have layers that promote enhanced luminescence, and also has a transparent aperture to go over a punch-hole camera in order to make it less conspicuous.
The iQOO 8, 8 Pro or both are also rumored to be capable of automatically changing their refresh rates from 1 to 120Hz, according to the best rate for the content on-screen. They are now scheduled to launch on August 17, 2021, although whether this will be a global launch or not remains to be seen.
