Rumor | iQOO will launch a new version of its 2021 flagship phone with the Snapdragon 888+ SoC
The iQOO smartphone brand is now linked to the launch of a phone called the 8. It is said to be a refresh of the current 7 flagship, powered by the Snapdragon 888's own updated Plus variant. It may launch with a 120Hz QHD+ display, 12 GB of RAM and Android 11.
Vivo's sub-brand iQOO was among the first to launch a Snapdragon 888-powered Android flagship smartphone. The 7 even used its new silicon to beat the Xiaomi Mi 11 in terms of performance on its debut, and also got to an official Android 12 beta early. Now, it is said to get a mid-year refresh, appropriately termed the 8.
These rumors are mostly based on an image of what might be marketing material for a device of this name, posted to Weibo by WHYLAB. Another prominent leaker, Digital Chat Station, also believes that the phone will come out soon with the updated Snapdragon 888+ processor in tow.
The tipster claims to have dug an official specs-sheet for the iQOO 8 (or "PD2141") up. It suggests that the 888+ will be joined by 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal capacity in this upcoming phone, along with the 7's OriginOS 1.0 that can 'convert' 4GB of a device's storage into extra RAM. It is now slated to debut on August 4, 2021.
