iQOO confirms that its newly expanded 7 flagship series will get an Indian launch
iQOO has officially announced that it will indeed launch the 7 in India on April 26, 2021. Not only that, but the heretofore standalone phone morphs into a series for its new market. The brand will sell a 7 and a 7 Legend in the country.
The latter's new name might imply that it has the same specs as the phone's top-end BMW-branded variant. However, it may simply be its base model with a motorsport-themed rear panel instead. Nevertheless, it is still slated to rock the Snapdragon 888 that drove the 7 to the top of the benchmarking charts on its initial release.
iQOO now teases the 7 Legend as the 2021 Android flagship with the largest thermal-management solution by surface area on its Amazon.in preview page. It apparently consists of "liquid cooling" - which translates to a copper pipe paired to a vapor chamber of no less than 4096 millimeters squared (mm2) in size. Hopefully, this will be enough to keep the 888's by-now notorious tendency to overheat in check.
The "Indian iQOO 7", on the other hand, is now hyped as a Snapdragon 870 device. This has led to widespread speculation that it is in fact a rebranded Neo5, which launched as a well-priced premium mid-ranger in its native China. Either way, it is touted to come with a dedicated display chip for MEMC and to extrapolate SDR content to HDR.
On that note, the new iQOO 7 series is shaping up to be competitive in terms of price as well as gaming features. Its OEM has suggested that it will start at INR 31990 (~US$429) on its April 26, 2021 release via Amazon.
