iQOO has a track-record of releasing flagship smartphones with competitive specs, prices or, occasionally, both. The freshly-launched 9 series is a good example of these, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and new E5 AMOLED displays in designs not often seen outside China.
Then again, the OEM now seems to have been gaining traction in the Indian market, and released some of its higher-end 2020 phones in that market. The presence of the 7 and 7 Legend may have raised hopes for the 8 series' appearance there as well. This never transpired - however, it now seems their next generation will make it to India soon.
iQOO has indicated that they will play a starring role in its upcoming Battlegrounds Mobile India Series campaign. Then again, it seems that it may not bring all of the top-end specs and features to the Indian models, as with the 7 (a re-badged Neo5) and 7 Legend (the 7, in truth) all over again.
In fact, there are indications that the iQOO 9 (Indian variant) might in fact be the 8 or 8 Pro, whereas the "9 Pro" could be either the Chinese-market 9 or 9 Pro. Either way, the higher-end model will have the OEM's exclusive BMW Motorsport-inspired colorway, as well as the series' 120W charging.
