Intel Core i7-7567U vs AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7730U vs AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7530U

Intel Core i7-7567U

► remove from comparison Intel i7-7567U

The Intel Core i7-7567U is a fast dual-core SoC for notebooks based on the Kaby Lake architecture and was announced in January 2017. The CPU has two processor cores clocked at 3.5-4 GHz (two cores up to 3.9 GHz). The processor can execute up to four threads simultaneously thanks to Hyper Threading. It is also equipped with an Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 GPU with 64 MB eDRAM, a dual-channel memory controller (DDR4) as well as VP9 and H.265 video decoding as well as encoding. The chip is still manufactured in a 14nm process with FinFET transistors.

Compared to the Core i7-7560, the 7567U has a higher TDP of 28 vs. 15 Watts as well as higher clocks.

Architecture

Intel basically uses the same micro architecture compared to Skylake, so the per-MHz performance does not differ. The manufacturer only reworked the Speed Shift technology for faster dynamic adjustments of voltages and clocks, and the improved 14nm process allows much higher frequencies combined with better efficiency than before.

Performance

Thanks to the high clocks pf up to 4 GHz and 64 MB eDRAM (can also be used as L4 cache by the CPU), the Core i7-7567U is the fastest dual-core for notebooks in the beginning of 2017. It competes with lower clocked quad-core models and can convince by the excellent single-thread performance. Some games might require a real quad-core though and could not run perfectly on the dual-core, despite Hyper Threading.

Graphics

The integrated Intel Iris Plus 650 Graphics is the GT3e model of the Kaby Lake GPU (Intel Gen. 9.5). It has 48 Execution Units running at 300-1100 MHz and the performance is comparable to a GeForce 920MX thanks to fast eDRAM cache. However, there aren't any significant improvements compared to the old Iris Pro 550, so modern games can often not be played smoothly or only at the lowest or medium settings, respectively.

Contrary to Skylake, Kaby lake now also supports H.265/HEVC Main 10 with a 10-bit color depth as well as Google's VP9 codec. The dual-core Kaby Lake processors announced in January should also support HDCP 2.2.

Power Consumption

The chip is manufactured in an improved 14nm process with FinFET transistors, which improves the efficiency even further. Intel specifies the TDP with 28 Watts, which can be reduced to 23 Watts (cTDP Down) depending on the usage scenario. The TDP is pretty high compared to the common 15-Watt TDP for dual-core processors, but allows a better utilization of CPU and GPU Turbo.

AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7730U

► remove from comparison AMD R7 PRO 7730U

The AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7730U is a processor for thin and light laptops based on the Cezanne generation. It is part of the second "Barcelo" refresh in early 2023 and offers the same specifications as the old Ryzen 7 5825U. The CPU integrates all eight cores based on the Zen 3 microarchitecture clocked at 2 (guaranteed base clock) to 4.5 GHz (Turbo) and support SMT / Hyperthreading (16 threads). The chip is manufactured in 7nm at TSMC. In comparison to the similar Ryzen 7 7730U, the PRO variant is aimed at business use and supports additional manageability and security features.

The Zen 3 microarchitecture offers significantly higher IPC (instructions per clock) compared to Zen 2 but falls behind the current Zen 4-based CPUs (e.g., 7040HS series).

Performance

The average 7730U in our database performs similarly to the Ryzen 7 5825U, Ryzen 7 6800U, Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U, and also the Core i7-1360P concerning multi-thread benchmark scores.

In addition to the eight CPU cores, the APU also integrates a Radeon RX Vega 8 GPU with 8 CUs operating at up to 2000 MHz. The dual-channel memory controller supports DDR4-3200 and energy-efficient LPDDR4-4266 RAM. Furthermore, a 16 MB level 3 cache (up from 8 MB on the 4800U) can be found on the chip.

The TDP of the APU is specified at 15 Watts (compared to the 5825U, which was specified between 10 and 25W).

AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7530U

► remove from comparison AMD R5 PRO 7530U

The AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7530U is a processor for thin and light laptops based on the Cezanne generation. It is part of the second "Barcelo" refresh in early 2023 and offers 200 MHz higher boost clock for the CPU cores compared to the old Ryzen 5 5625U (but a slower base clock speed). The R5 7530U integrates six of the eight cores based on the Zen 3 microarchitecture. The cores are clocked at 2 (guaranteed base clock) to 4.5 GHz (single core boost) and support SMT for a total of 12 threads. The chip is manufactured in 7 nm at TSMC.

Similar to the Ryzen 5 7530U but adding support for "PRO" features like management, security and long term replacement support.

Performance

The average 7530U in our database is in the same league as the Ryzen 5 5625U, Ryzen 7 4800U, Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U, Core i5-1335U, as far as multi-thread benchmark scores are concerned.

In addition to the six CPU cores, the APU also integrates a Radeon RX Vega 7 (now only called Radeon Graphics) integrated graphics card with 7 CUs at up to 2 GHz. The dual channel memory controller supports DDR4-3200 and energy efficient LPDDR4-4266 RAM. Additionally, the chip contains a 16 MB level 3 cache, increased from 8 MB found in the 4800U.

Power consumption

This Ryzen has a default TDP of 15 W (also known as the Power Limit 1).
