Game Science has announced its next project which is the an entry in the Black Myth series. Titled Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the game is in early development and a teaser trailer was showcased on August 19 to coincide with Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025. It is not a sequel to the award-winning Black Myth: Wukong but a fresh idea in the world of Black Myth.
The short teaser (linked below) posted on the official Black Myth YouTube channel is a cinematic showing two humans looking for a mysterious mountain as their conversation is cut short by Zhong Kui walking past on top of a massive tiger. Zhong Kui is a Taoist deity in Chinese mythology, also known as the ‘King of Ghosts.’ No further details were shared in the trailer, but the official website sheds some light on the game and the team’s aspirations.
As per the website, Game Science explained why they decided to go in a new direction rather than make a sequel to Black Myth: Wukong. “Upon completing the journey with the Destined One, we now aspire to take a tentative first step - to build more distinct game experiences, to challenge ourselves with bolder features, and to bring fresh ideas to our world and narrative design," it states.
Like Wukong, Zhong Kui will also be a single-player ARPG minus the monkey role. There is no release date as of yet and the game is in early development. It will be released for PC and all mainstream console platforms. Gameplay footage and story information seems to be in the distant future as the team hasn’t finalized the outline yet.
