Xperia 1 II: Carrier confirms release date of Sony's much-anticipated flagship
The Sony Xperia 1 II was announced back at MWC but here we are, three months later, and the flagship is yet to be released. Thankfully, though, the wait is almost over, as a Japanese carrier has now confirmed a release date for the Xperia 1 II in its home country.
Weeks ago, Japanese carrier DoCoMo changed its Xperia 1 II listing to show that the phone would be available by the end of May. Another carrier, au by KDDI has now given an exact date for the phone's release: May 22. DoCoMo's page still says it will available at the end of May, but we expect that to change soon.
While this doesn't tell us exactly when the Xperia 1 II will make its way to the US and Europe, we'd be surprised if it doesn't become available for pre-order at least in June. That's still an extremely poor launch by Sony, though, as consumers can hardly be expected to wait four months for a product to become available.
