The improved version of the Mi 9 was announced today together with the Mi MIX Alpha flagship. Xiaomi's Mi 9 Pro will be available in 4G and 5G versions, but the latter will start shipping only on October 31. (Xiaomi Mi 9 Unlocked on sale now at Amazon.)
Design-wise, the new Mi 9 Pro is essentially identical to the non-Pro version, with the same 6.39-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ display that comes with a teardrop notch 20 MP selfie cam and in-screen fingerprint sensor, while the back still features the 48 + 12 + 16 camera setup. The only notable difference is the addition of an improved speaker with the largest sound chamber to be featured in any Xiaomi handhelds.
The internal specs, however, have been refreshed to be in-line with all the latest Xiaomi flagships. At the heart of the device we now find the Snapdragon 855+ SoC coupled with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB storage. More specifically, the RAM/storage options will include 8/128, 8/256, 12/256 and 12/512 GB variants.
Probably the most prominent upgrade for the Mi 9 Pro is the bigger 4,000 mAh battery that comes with a variety of charging features. It now supports 45 W wired charging out-of-the-box for blazing fast charging times, and it can also be charged wirelessly via a new 30 W pad that comes with improved cooling (sold separately). The new model supports 10 W reverse charging, as well.
Xiaomi’s Mi 9 Pro 4G version will begin shipping October 1 with prices ranging from ~US$520 for the 8/128 GB model to ~US$605 for the 12/512 GB model. Initial color options are limited to Titanium Black and Dream White.
