Xiaomi teases imminent release of MediaTek Helio G90T-powered gaming phone
Xiaomi plans on releasing a new device in the coming days. It's unknown what exactly the device will be; some rumors claim it could be the Redmi Note 8 while others say it may be an entirely new gaming phone. We're leaning towards the latter.
On July 30, Xiaomi India posted a teaser on its Twitter page. "Enter the world of incredible gaming, Mi x MediaTek Helio G90T. Coming soon," the poster read. The company has also teased the launch of a new phone on August 7, albeit with the tagline, "Images of the future".
The first teaser surely alludes to a gaming phone, while the latter points towards a camera-centric phone that will feature the new 64 MP sensor. It's more likely that we're looking at two completely different devices. We believe the camera-centric phone to be the Redmi Note 8. As such, it should not feature the Helio G90T as some reports claim. In fact, the gaming device will not carry the Redmi badge at all.
In any case, the gaming phone will be powered by the new MediaTek SoC. It's not a bad chipset by any means, and both CPU and GPU benchmarks show it outperforming the Snapdragon 730G. That handily makes the G90T the best mid-range gaming SoC, on par with the Kirin 810.
One of the two devices will be launched tomorrow, August 7, so we don't have to wait for much longer.
