Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T Pro Plus receives DisplayMate A+ rating for its 144 Hz IPS LCD with no PWM
Xiaomi is not due to announce the Redmi Note 11T series until May 24, which it has since confirmed will debut alongside the Xiaomi Band 7 and an AMD Ryzen Edition of the RedmiBook Pro 14 2022. However, the company has already unveiled that the Redmi Note 11T Pro Plus has received DisplayMate's coveted A+ rating.
While this would be impressive for any mid-range smartphone, the Redmi Note 11T Pro Plus is also the first smartphone with an LCD panel to be awarded a DisplayMate A+ rating. As the teaser images below show, the Redmi Note 11T Pro Plus relies on DC dimming to adjust display brightness, not pulse-width modulation (PWM). As we discuss in our laptop and smartphone reviews, PWM rapidly flickers a display, which can cause eye strain and headaches for some people. The Redmi Note 11T Pro Plus is not the first smartphone to offer DC dimming.
Presumably, we will learn more when DisplayMate publishes its Redmi Note 11T Pro Plus review. Until then, Xiaomi has also confirmed that the display has a 20.5:9 aspect ratio and a 144 Hz refresh rate that it can reduce to 30 Hz for reduced power consumption. Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi promises that the display will deliver excellent colour accuracy and brightness levels, although details of these values remain unknown at this stage. Incidentally, the display supports Dolby Vision and can automatically adjust its colour temperature based on ambient lighting, mirroring Apple's TrueTone feature. Pricing has not emerged yet, but Xiaomi has confirmed that the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 will power the handset, as will LPDDR5 RAM.
