Xiaomi Redmi K50 series: Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 9000 models to launch simultaneously as more design, OS and memory details emerge
Xiaomi has confirmed that it will be unveiling at least two smartphones at its Redmi K50 series event next week, scheduled for March 17. Yesterday, the company teased a few details about the presumed Redmi K50 Pro+, including that it would rely on the Dimensity 9000 SoC. Now, it has announced that a Dimensity 8100-powered handset will join the Dimensity 9000 on March 17, as the screenshot below shows.
Previously, Xiaomi had stated the Dimensity 8100 would feature in the Redmi K50 series, but not that the new SoC would also arrive on March 17. Seemingly powering the Redmi K50 Pro, the Dimensity 8100 features an octa-core CPU, an ARM Mali-G610 MC6 GPU and support for UFS 3.1 storage plus LPDDR5 RAM. In comparison, the Dimensity 9000 utilises the more powerful Mali-G710 MC10 GPU, which has 10 GPU cores.
Xiaomi has showcased a new 'nano-microcrystalline process' that gives at least one Redmi K50 series handset an eye-catching back panel. It remains to be seen how shimmering the design is in the flesh, but marketing images draw comparisons with the Nexus 4. Xiaomi has not confirmed what the Redmi K50 Pro or Redmi K50 Pro+ look like from the front, but leaked renders suggest that they will both have flat displays and centred punch hole cameras.
Incidentally, it appears that both Redmi K50 Pro models have surfaced on Geekbench with Android 12. The listings also show that the pair have 12 GB of RAM, matching the Redmi K50 Gaming. Presumably, Xiaomi will sell 8 GB versions of the Redmi K50 Pro and Redmi K50 Pro+ too. Unfortunately, it remains unknown when Xiaomi will release the Redmi K50 series globally, even if they are already rumoured to arrive as POCO F4 smartphones instead.
