Update: Xiaomi has now indeed formally introduced the 2 new Mix Fold 2 special edition box sets, announcing that the Moonlight Silver version will be available at 13,999 yuan. At the equivalent of well over US$2,000, this is much more than the standard issue of the foldable phablet, even at its launch.
Original Article: The Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are traditional candy-bar Android smartphones slated to be unveiled in full in much less than a day from now (December 10, 2022). Therefore, it might strike some consumers as odd for the company to draw attention back to its top-end foldable alternative so soon before the launch of new flagships.
However, that is exactly what Xiaomi has done with the new Moonlight Silver and Basalt Black versions of the Mix Fold 2 - and with what might be the OEM's most innovative finishes to date to boot.
The OEM has "rejuvenated" the super-premium device for 2023 with these 2 new finishes. The rear panel of the former is Xiaomi's latest ceramic device, of a new "mirror" variety in pale sliver, whereas that of the latter is glass, albeit patterned and processed to resemble leather.
Furthermore, both have a new textured pattern of wide pinstripes parallel to the Mix Fold 2's visor-like rear camera hump. All in all, they make the original Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered foldable phablet's original black and gold matte colorways look boring by comparison.
Their maker has yet to reveal how much either might cost, although it has revealed that the Moonlight Silver special edition comes in a "gift box" complete with free cases (one of which make the 8.02-inch OLED-display device look like a fancy notebook), as well as a Watch S1 Pro and Buds 4 Pro in matching, possibly exclusive, colors.
Xiaomi has hinted that it may also wheel these new Limited Editions out during the already jam-packed 13 & MIUI 14 event tomorrow.
