Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone series and Pocophone F1 join the list of Xiaomi and Redmi devices that will not receive Android 11
Earlier this month we reported about a leaked list of Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco, and Black Shark devices that may or may not get updated to Android 11. At the time, a total of 12 smartphones were listed that supposedly were not going to get further support, including the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G. According to a new report, there are more devices that are going to join the list, which now includes the Mi 8 range of smartphones.
The latest purported additions to the list of smartphones that won’t get Android 11 are:
- Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Pro (UD), Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi 8 SE, Mi 8 Lite
- Xiaomi Mi Note 3
- Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
- Xiaomi Mi Max 3
- Xiaomi Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite
- Xiaomi Mi Play
- Redmi S2
- Redmi Go
- Pocophone F1
While the Android 11 status of some of these devices appears to be based on guesswork, Xiaomi representatives have specifically stated that support for “models using Snapdragon 845, such as Mi 8 and Mix 2S” will end with Android 10. We have already reported about phones such as the Mi Mix 2S and Mi A2 Lite being left off the Android 11 list, too.
A full list of the Xiaomi smartphones that are now not expected to get Android 11 can be accessed in the drop-down box beneath the "Sources". Android 11 will bring features such as notification conversations (“bubbles”), enhanced media controls that include smart home device connections, and it has been tweaked to work efficiently with the increased amount of foldable and waterfall-type display smartphones being released on the market.
