As with last year, Xiaomi is projected to update its gaming phone with a mid-year upgraded variant. It is likely to be called the Black Shark 2 Pro in 2019. It already has a reservations page on the retailer JD.com, which has let a heretofore-unknown detail slip: the phone's display will come with "DC dimming 2.0".
is A new report confirms the Black Shark 2 Pro's July 30, 2019 release. This has come courtesy of a reservations page for the upcoming gaming phone hosted on the Chinese retailer JD.com. Some descriptive text found on this listing points to an upgraded spec for the mid-year refresh: DC dimming 2.0.
This up-to-date form of screen brightness regulation may help the new Black Shark compete with devices such as the ASUS ROG Phone 2, as well as the Red Magic 3's own potential upgrade. It is also now said to ship with 12GB of RAM and an OS based on Android 9.0 (Pie). However, the JD.com page does nothing to hint at the SoC the Black Shark 2 Pro may run.
Some consumers may expect that any new gaming-focused mobile device released at such a juncture would rock the recently-launched Snapdragon 855+ processor. However, recent benchmarking scores for a phone that may be the upgraded Black Shark 2 indicates that it will stick with the slightly older Snapdragon 855.
