A new rumor has suggested that Xiaomi is planning on fitting its upcoming Black Shark 3 smartphone with a whopping 16 GB of RAM. Along with that huge amount of memory, the gaming-focused device would also be 5G capable, making it a sure-fire futureproofed handset for those who seek the most mobile form of high-end gaming enjoyment.

It’s believed that the Xiaomi Black Shark 3 5G smartphone is going to wow potential buyers with up to 16 GB of RAM, according to a rumor shared on Twitter. Little is known about the device so far, although it has already received its Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) certification in China, which revealed its 5G capability.

It’s suspected that Xiaomi might be after bragging rights in the case of the Black Shark 3 5G, as it could end up being the world’s first smartphone to feature such a hefty amount of RAM. 16 GB of memory would be a boon for users who already find themselves struggling with devices with “only” up to 12 GB RAM, such as the well-received Xiaomi Black Shark 2.

Whether other smartphone OEMs will sit up and try to challenge this particular rumor about a 16 GB smartphone from Xiaomi remains to be seen, although there have been many incidents of manufacturers vying to outdo each other for a particular title, such as was seen with foldable devices and more recently with under-display camera technology. No price has been put forward for the Xiaomi Black Shark 3 5G, but the top-specced model will certainly cost a pretty penny, with the 12 GB Black Shark 2 Pro listed at US$699 in Black Shark’s global store.
