Black Shark 3 to be unveiled on March 3rd; will feature a 120Hz screen, Snapdragon 865 and more
Xiaomi-owned Black Shark has made quite the splash in the gaming smartphone segment with the Black Shark 2 and Black Shark 2 Pro. It sold reasonably well in markets such as India due to its competitive price and power-packed features. Riding on the popularity of the Black Shark 2 Pro, the Chinese OEM has announced that the phone will get a successor. The Black Shark 3 will be released on March 3rd.
As far as its innards are concerned, all Black Shark phones have come with flagship hardware, so it stands to reason that the device will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. It will also make the Black Shark 3 the world's first 5G-ready smartphone. Some of the other features include a 120Hz AMOLED screen, up to 16 GB of RAM, and a 5,000 mAh battery that supports wired charging at 65W. Rumor has it that it will also be the world's first-ever smartphone to use liquid metal to cool the SoC.
A gaming smartphone is of little use without any games, and that's why Black Shark has partnered up with Tencent. We could see some Tencent-developed Black Shark 3 exclusive games as a result. It'll be interesting to see how Black Shark chooses to price the phone. Its predecessors retailed at around ~$500, but it seems unlikely that the Black Shark 3 will follow suit. We are yet to see a sub-$500 Snapdragon 865-powered smartphone, and it is doubtful that we'll get to see one until much later this year.
