Nubia teases Snapdragon 855 Plus upgrade for Red Magic 3
ZTE subsidiary Nubia is mostly focusing on gaming phones as of late. Its latest Red Magic 3 powered by the Snapdragon 855 is now the fastest gaming smartphone on the market, but this could soon change since Asus recently announced the ROG Phone 2 that will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 Plus, which is specifically designed for gaming smartphones. It looks like Nubia does not intend to give up its leading position without a fight as the company just released a teaser announcing that it will soon update the Red Magic 3 with the new gaming SoC.
The teaser posted on the Weibo forums lets us know that Nubia is not afraid of any challenges and is willing to adapt quickly to the new trends. Nubia’s new Red Magic 3 version should probably be launched a little after the Asus ROG Phone 2, and it is unclear if the current version will be getting a price cut. Nubia may also add new features like 5G support and even a 90 Hz+ display in order to justify the need for an update only 2-3 months after the release of the original version.
Other competitors may also want to make the jump on the Snapdragon 855 Plus wagon, so we could soon see new Xiaomi Black Shark or Razer Phone models with updated specs. The new SoC is expected to offer up to 15% increased GPU performance, allowing for higher refresh rate displays.
