The Arkfish Smart Room Door Lock S5 is now crowdfunding on Xiaomi’s Youpin platform in China. The smart home gadget has been designed to do away with the need for keys to unlock doors inside your home, like a shared apartment. Instead, you can use Bluetooth, a password or an integrated fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint reader is 99.8% accurate, with a processing time under 0.5 seconds. Plus, a physical key is provided as a backup option.
Other features include always-on locking, which can be disabled to allow you to open the door without verification. This setting, amongst others, can be controlled via the accompanying app, where you can also view the locked status of your door and unlocking records. The product is compatible with Xiaomi’s Mijia smart home ecosystem, allowing you to trigger scenarios when your door is opened or closed. The battery-powered gadget can run for up to 300 days, and emergency power can be supplied via USB-C. Plus, the company claims the device is compatible with 95% of wooden doors, replacing your existing handle and lock.
You can pledge 199 yuan (~$28) to receive the standard version of the Arkfish Smart Room Door Lock S5, assuming the crowdfunding campaign is successful. Over 2,000 people have supported the project at the time of writing, raising 88% of the 500,000 yuan (~$70,000) funding target. Whether or when the gadget could go on general sale or reach other markets like the US remains to be seen.
