Xiaomi 13 Ultra falls short of Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Google Pixel 7 Pro in DxOMark camera analyses
Earlier this week, Xiaomi confirmed its intentions to offer the Xiaomi 13 Ultra in Europe. In short, the company's latest flagship will be orderable from June 12 for €1,499 in a sole 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage configuration. In the meantime, DxOMark has put the smartphone through its paces with some rather surprising results.
Theoretically, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has a strong set of cameras, with four 50 MP lenses split between the Sony IMX989 as its primary camera and three IMX858 sensors serving as its ultra-wide-angle and two telephoto cameras. Despite this, DxOMark awarded the Xiaomi 13 Ultra an overall score of 140, tying it with the Pixel 7, Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Vivo X90 Pro Plus for 14th place in its smartphone leaderboard. Hence, Xiaomi is a way behind Apple, Google, Honor, Huawei and Oppo; currently, the P60 Pro leads the way with a score of 156.
According to the website, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra's camera system has several flaws, including a noticeable delay between pressing the shutter button and the device capturing an image. Additionally, DxOMark cites portrait shots as often being overexposed, resulting in unnatural skin tones and low contrast levels. Moreover, the Leica Summicron lens covering the primary camera has a propensity to flare at the edges of an image in strong lighting conditions. Overall, DxOMark considers the Xiaomi 13 Ultra to have a competent camera system but not one that reaches the upper echelons of modern flagships.
