Sony A7C II rumoured to arrive after a6700's July launch with significant spec upgrades to compact E-mount camera
It appears that an upgrade to Sony's A7C compact full-frame mirrorless camera is just a few months away, with rumours shared by Mirrorless Rumors indicating that a release date sometime between the supposed July 12 release date of the a6700 and the Q3-Q4 release of the A9 III.
The first and current A7C launched back in September of 2020, lending credence to the rumoured release date, while a tentative spec sheet indicates the A7C II will be a killer choice for someone looking for a compact stills or hybrid camera for travel or even some professional work.
Some of the most notable spec upgrades expected from the A7C II include an upgrade to the BIONZ XR processor with AI capabilities — the same processor found in the ZV-E1 vlogging camera that lends it some powerful video chops and nifty beginner-friendly features. The A7C II could also get a sensor upgrade to the A7 IV's 33-MP unit, with an ISO range of 100-51200 and five-axis image compensation.
Most significantly, a new sensor will likely deliver more AF points, and the sensor-processor combination would see the video options top out at 4K 60 FPS, 10-bit with S-Cinetone, giving it tremendous potential as a hybrid creator camera.
The upgraded sensor could mean the A7C II will feature slightly better IBIS than its predecessor. This doesn't necessarily mean specifications like the IBIS or sensitivity directly translate to a new body, though — Fujifilm managed to extract an extra stop of IBIS compensation from the X-S10's sensor when it launched the X-S20 earlier this year.
