Nex Computer has announced the NexDock XL, a 15.6-inch laptop dock with a built-in wireless charger that allows a smartphone to be used as a trackpad. The NexDock XL is available for US$349 and is compatible with smartphones that support desktop modes like Samsung DeX and the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Nex Computer has revealed details about the NexDock XL, a new project that is already available to pre-order. As its name implies, the NexDock XL is a larger alternative to the NexDock Wireless and NexDock 360. For reference, the former is a refresh of the latter with added wireless connectivity. By contrast, the NexDock XL combines the features of earlier models and stretches it across a 15.6-inch display.

According to Nex Computer, the laminated and IPS display operates at 1080p in a 16:9 aspect ratio with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 300 nits peak brightness, an 800:1 contrast ratio and 100% sRGB colour space coverage. Additionally, the NexDock XL has a 57 Wh battery, quad 2 W speakers and a six-row backlit keyboard that is joined by a multi-touch trackpad. Moreover, the NexDock XL has the following ports:

  • Inputs

    • 1x USB 3.1 Type-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode)
    • 1x Mini HDMI 1.4a

  • Outputs

    • 1x 3.5 mm jack
    • 1x MicroSD card
    • 1x USB 3.0 Type-A
    • 1x USB Type-C (charging)

Arguably one of the more unusual elements of the NexDock XL is its smartphone wireless charging pad. Not only can it keep your smartphone topped up at 15 W as you use DeX or an alternative, but the built-in magnets allow the likes of the Galaxy S23 Ultra to double as an alternative trackpad. The NexDock XL measures 360 x 240 x 16.6 mm and weighs 1.91 kg. Nex Computer is charging US$349 for the device and asks for US$100 as a downpayment. Nex Computer will begin mass production once it receives 1,000 pre-orders, a process that takes 90 days. Please see Nex Computer's website for more details.
