We reported about a Xiaomi 12 Ultra in the works that is speculated to feature a triple-primary camera system with 50 MP lenses. These include a 50 MP super bottom main camera, a 50 MP super wide-angle lens, and a 50 MP telephoto lens with a possible 5x periscopic zoom.
Known Xiaomi watcher Digital Chat Station, who revealed the above news, has now indicated that the 50 MP main camera in the Xiaomi 12 could also offer 1,920 fps super slow motion video capture. Xiaomi is apparently testing this feature in engineering samples of the top two Xiaomi 12 models. While this 50 MP primary camera will be the same across both the flagship models being tested, the specifications of the wide-angle and periscope lens are likely to differ.
Other specifications that are expected to make the cut include an LTPO adaptive refresh rate display that can dynamically change between 1 Hz and 120 Hz and the Snapdragon 898 SoC. While the Xiaomi 12 Ultra and Pro (?) will feature 50 MP arrays, the regular Xiaomi 12 variant is expected to feature a 200 MP sensor that was originally rumored to be part of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
Overall, the specifications look quite enticing on paper. That being said, having higher megapixel counts is one thing and getting software processing right is another. We will have to see how well these cameras actually perform in real life.
Samsung just announced the availability of the 200 MP ISOCELL HP1 and the 50 MP Dual Pixel Pro ISOCELL GN5 sensors for flagship phones, so it is likely that these sensors may find their way to the new new Xiaomi 12 series.
