XMG expands its lineup of 17.3-inch laptops with the new Apex 17 M25, largely based on the same chassis as the Focus 17 launched earlier this year. Unlike the Intel-based Focus model, however, the Apex 17 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060.

XMG is updating the Apex gaming laptop lineup with a 17-inch model that is similar to this year’s Focus 17 model, except it is powered by AMD’s latest mobile APUs and, for now, it only offers the RTX 5060 dGPU option. XMG promises to add an RTX 5070 option sometime in Q1 2026.

Detailed specs

Unlike the Focus 17 launched earlier this year with the older Raptor Lake/-Refresh processors from Intel, the M25 version of the Apex 17 is powered by one of AMD’s current high-end APUs - the Ryzen 9 9955HX. This processor integrates 16 Zen 5 cores with 32 threads plus 64 MB L3 cache and can boost up to 5.4 GHz. It is similar to the desktop Ryzen 9000 series as it only offers a Radeon 610M iGPU, but the TDP is reduced to maximum 75 W. Users may add up to 128 GB DDR5-5600 RAM and up 16 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage via two M.2 slots.

The RTX 5060 dGPU with maximum 115 W TGP and MUX switch is certainly a tier below than the RTX 5070 Ti offered on the Focus 17, but it makes this model more attractive for the budget-conscious gamers. XMG will soon add the RTX 5070 option as well.

On the display side, we find the same panel from the Focus 17 model with a 2,560 x 1,440 IPS screen, 240 Hz refresh rate, 300 nit maximum brightness and 100% DCI-P3 / sRGB coverage. Above the display, XMG added an FHD webcam with temporal noise reduction and physical shutter.

As most of XMG’s models, the Apex 17 M25  features the faster ports on the rear side, including Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 2.1 (48 Gbps), USB-C 3.2 Gen2 with integrated DisplayPort 1.4a, and the power supply connector. Additional ports on the sides include USB-A 3.2 Gen2 and Gen1, a 2-in-1 audio jack for headset and microphone, and another USB-C 3.2 Gen2 with integrated DisplayPort 2.1 (DP40) and 100 W Power Delivery. Wireless connectivity is provided through a Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.3 card.

The chassis is slightly smaller compared to the one on the Focus 17 and measures 402 x 265 x 28.6 mm. Only the display lid is made of aluminium and the weight remains at ~2.8 kg. Battery capacity is the same 73 Wh. Thanks to the larger chassis, the RGB keyboard includes full-size arrow keys and numpad plus a larger 150 x 90 mm touchpad.

Pricing and availability

XMG is pricing the base configuration for the Apex 17 M25 with 16 (2 x 8) GB DDR5-5600 RAM and 1 TB SSD at €1,699. This model is available for pre-order with immediate effect and is expected to be in stock from the end of November. As part of the ongoing BLACK DEALS promotion, bestware.com is offering a 5 per cent discount on the Apex 17 until December 2nd – reducing the starting price to €1,614.05.
