Samsung is expected to refresh its laptop portfolio with Galaxy Book6 models soon. By all accounts, the company has selected Intel Panther Lake processors for the Galaxy Book6 Pro, which should extend to the rumoured Galaxy Book6 Ultra too with comparatively powerful iGPUs. In the meantime, Samsung has quietly replaced the Galaxy Book4 Edge with a newer model.
Specifically, the company has started selling the Galaxy Book5 Edge 5G in the UK with a few major differences from its Galaxy Book4 Edge predecessor (curr. $699 on Amazon). As its name suggests, the Galaxy Book5 Edge 5G contains a 5G modem that the Galaxy Book4 Edge misses out on. Moreover, Samsung has swapped the latter's microSD card slot for one that adds a Nano SIM card without compromising on microSD card expansion.
Conversely, the HDMI 2.1, USB4 and USB 3.2 Type-A ports from the Galaxy Book4 Edge return, as does a Kensington lock slot and a 3.5 mm jack on the laptop's right-hand side. The same is true of a 15.6-inch IPS display, which outputs at 1080p in a 16:9 aspect ratio with an anti-glare coating. Likewise, Samsung's newer laptop maintains an unchanged 61.2 Wh battery capacity with support for 65 W charging within roughly the same 356.6 x 229.8 x 15.5 mm dimensions as its predecessor.
Inexplicably, weight has increased by 160 g between generations to 1.66 kg despite Samsung switching in the comparatively low-power Qualcomm Snapdragon X (X1-26-100) chipset. The Galaxy Book5 Edge is only sold in the UK for the time being, where it retails for £949 (~$1,247) including 20% VAT with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Currently sold on eBay and Samsung's website, it is unclear when the Galaxy Book5 Edge will reach other markets.
