The Wolfenstein franchise has a long way to go. Indeed, while the video games have met with great success by adapting a zany, yet addictive story, a TV series is currently in the works at Amazon. And surprise, it's the producer of Fallout who will be at the helm.
This information didn't come out of the blue, as Variety brought it to light. The newspaper states that a series based on the game is currently in preparation. For their part, the teams responsible for the Wolfenstein games shared a rather equivocal slogan: “The story of killing Nazis is evergreen”.
However, there are no details regarding the series' storyline, and we can expect to find out in the coming weeks or months. But fans of the license can rest assured, as the teams heading up this project are solid and promising.
Patrick Somerville, writer of The Leftovers and creator of Station Eleven, is currently attached as creator, writer and executive producer. What's more, according to Variety, he's been a Wolfenstein fan since childhood, so you can imagine the passion he'll bring to this work.
For its part, Amazon is teaming up with Kilter Films, which was responsible for producing the Fallout series. Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy and Athena Wickham will also act as executive producers. Finally, James Altman of Keyframe Films and Jerk Gustafsson of MachineGames have also joined the project, which bodes well for the future.
So, with the resplendent success of the Wolfenstein games, it's hardly surprising to see Amazon throwing its weight behind this project. The company has already adapted several series from video games, such as Fallout. Not to mention other programs in the pipeline, such as a series based on God of War and various projects set in the Mass Effect universe. But we'll have to wait for further information to find out what it's all about.
