Although there is a slim possibility of an official Fallout: New Vegas remake being launched, it is unlikely to happen anytime soon, as both Bethesda and Obsidian have their hands full with their own projects. Thankfully, modders have kept the game alive for over a decade after its launch. Now, another talented modder wants to give it a new lease of life.
Like Half-Life 2 and Quake, Fallout: New Vegas is getting a visual do-over via Nvidia's RTX Remix tool. The modder, Skurtyyskirts, has started work on the ambitious project and is actively soliciting votes in Moddb's RTX Remix contest that has a $50,000 prize pool up for grabs. Alternatively, you can directly support the creator via Ko-Fi.
If successful, the ageing game will incorporate modern conveniences like real-time ray tracing and path tracing, although its underlying spaghetti code might still require fixes. The world of Fallout: New Vegas isn't exactly small, and RTX-ifying every texture might take time. Nevertheless, it has the potential to breathe new life into the timeless classic that is in desperate need of a remake/remaster.
