In addition to class adjustments and balancing updates, patch 10.2.6 for World of Warcraft Dragonflight, which went live today, also brings a brand new Battle Royale-style pirate game mode to the game - a treat that should also be of interest to Wow Classic players.

Since Blizzard did not conduct a public test phase this time, there was a lot of speculation about patch 10.2.6. Today, the latest retail patch has finally gone online. In addition to long-awaited adjustments to the main game, it also includes the new but time-limited Plunderstrom game mode.

In Plunderstrom, players plunge into battle as a pirate in a revised version of the Arathi Highlands, which has little to do with the actual game in terms of gameplay. Although players can choose from the usual races, the familiar class system from WoW does not exist. The revised taskbar offers space for seven abilities. Two of these are already occupied by a simple damage and healing spell at the start of the round. By defeating NPCs or other players and looting treasure chests, players can level up, find new abilities and become stronger.

While the battle rages, a storm sweeps across the Arathi Highlands. As we already know from other Battle Royal titles, this ensures that the map becomes smaller and smaller and players inevitably clash. A round should only last 10 to 15 minutes. Whoever manages to outlast all 59 other players wins the round. Progress is of course lost after the game. In the next round, everything starts all over again.

Solo and duo mode available

If you want to fight your way through the Arathi Highlands together with a mate, you can do so in duo mode. To keep things fair, all other players on the battlefield are also in teams of two. If a player dies, they can be revived by their team member. If this does not happen in time, players can still follow the battle from their teammate's perspective.

Earn rewards for retail

There are 40 ranks and for each rank there is a reward - including transmogs, titles and mounts for WoW Dragonflight. Wrath of the Lichking Calssic players can win at least one pet and one mount each.

How to play Plunderstrom

To play the new Battle Royal mode, all you need is an active WoW subscription or game time. It doesn't matter which expansion players prefer. Dragonflight, WotLK Classic or Classic - Plunderstrom can be played with all add-ons. Simply log into the respective WoW version, click on Plunderstrom in the character window at the top left, create a new character and join the battle.
