Volkswagen has confirmed rumors that the ID. e-vehicle series is about to go particularly high-end. It has acknowledged that the AERO exists, albeit only as a concept at present. Its renders have now officially debuted, possibly in order to drum up enthusiasm for the car in its target market.
The company has revealed that it will be built on an elongated version of its Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform. Accordingly, it describes the AERO as a "limousine", although the new schematics hint at much more ICE Passat-like lines.
Volkswagen notes that it plans a particularly aerodynamic nose and tail for the AERO, possibly connected by singular curving pillars. The marque might also prepare thin, full-width, LED-stripe head- and tail-lights for its high-end ID. concept.
All of this might make its real-life iteration of interest to buyers, established e-car enthusiasts or otherwise. However, the marque has indicated that the vehicle is destined for the "high-volume upper-middle class segment" in China. Volkswagen might reveal more potential ID. AERO specs during the concept's formal digital launch, now set for June 27, 2022.
