Facelifted Volkswagen ID.3 will get a quicker all-wheel drive GTX model next year
It is not much of a secret that the largest German automaker Volkswagen is working on a performance-oriented GTX model variant of its popular electric hatchback, the VW ID.3. Last year, the company already presented a corresponding concept car named VW ID.X, but the eventual release and launch date of the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX has remained a mystery so far.
Fortunately, Volkswagen spokesperson Martin Hube has recently made some noteworthy statements during an event in Austria, which should be good news for prospective buyers of the VW ID.3 GTX. According to a report by Motor1, the sporty GTX will not be based on the current VW ID.3, but on the upcoming improved and facelifted 2023 model year of the compact EV. However, aside from a targeted launch in 2023, Huber has not revealed any further technical specs or details of the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX.
The already confirmed all-wheel drive powertrain of the VW ID.3 GTX may be the most enticing upgrade in comparison to the base model, but the hot hatch apparently won't be as fast as the aforementioned ID.X prototype which reportedly had around 329 metric horsepower. The two electric motors in the larger VW ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX for example deliver 299 metric horsepower, which would certainly be an appropriate performance for the smaller VW ID.3 GTX. With that kind of power, the electric hatchback is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around six seconds or less.
