Aiways U5 electric SUV with 255-mile range set to launch in UK in 2023
Aiways has announced that it will launch the U5 electric SUV in the UK in 2023. Speaking to Autocar, Aiways overseas CEO Alex Klose said:
The plan now is to be in the UK sooner rather than later. I made a pledge to do that within 12 months. That might be too tight, but we’re already working on it, and that’s what I would call our ambitious goal.”
The U5 launched in 2018 as the first EV from the Chinese start-up. The latest version of the SUV is powered by a 150 kW (204 hp) drivetrain. This provides 310 Nm of torque and enables the electric vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 kph) in 7.5 seconds. The EV has fast charging capabilities, charging at 90 kW from 20% to 80% in 35 minutes. Alternatively, you can charge the SUV from 0% to 100% via a 6.6 kW AC charger in 10 hours. When fully charged, the 63 kWh battery delivers up to 255 miles (410 km) range.
Convenience features of the car include keyless entry, wireless smartphone charging, haptic feedback buttons and the ability to open the tailgate using an under-car foot sensor. Plus, the U5 has level 2 autonomous driving technology, with a lane departure prevention system, blind-spot warnings and the ability to read road signs.
You can already buy the U5 all-electric SUV in 14 European countries, including the Netherlands, France and Italy, starting from €38,275 (~US$40,446). It is currently unclear how much Aiways will charge for the EV in the UK.
