Toyota O-Uchi Kyuden battery storage revealed with 8.7 kWh capacity
Toyota has revealed the O-Uchi Kyuden, a storage battery system for at-home use. The company suggests that you can use the device every day or during power outages. Plus, the power bank is designed to be installed outdoors.
The gadget has a rated capacity of 8.7 kWh and a rated output of 5.5 kWh. A photovoltaic system allows the device to regulate the energy supply during the day or at night, reducing energy costs or increasing any income from electricity sales. Toyota also hopes this will encourage you to connect solar panels to charge the device.
The system supports a power supply at 100 V AC from electrified vehicles, including hybrid and battery electric cars. Toyota claims this is a unique feature, with a maximum output of 1.1 kWh. You can connect to the power bank through an accompanying app on your smartphone or tablet; the app allows you to view real-time storage capacity and alter settings.
You can now pre-order the Toyota O-Uchi Kyuden in Japan, which will officially launch in August. Toyota will predominantly sell the gadget to home builders and construction companies rather than directly to customers. It is currently unclear how much the gadget costs and whether it will be released in other markets.
