Ugreen launches upgraded eGPU dock with Thunderbolt 5, OCuLink, and 850W PSU
The Ugreen LinkStation eGPU dock went on sale earlier this year with USB4, OCuLink, and a built-in 850 W power supply. Months later, Ugreen has released an upgraded version called the LinkStation Pro.
The LinkStation Pro features the same semi-open aluminum design as its predecessor but brings two major upgrades. First, Thunderbolt 5 replaces the 40 Gbps USB4 connection in the older model, doubling the available bandwidth to 80 Gbps. The 64 Gbps OCuLink port is still available as an alternative, making it compatible with a variety of laptops, mini PCs, and even NAS devices like the new Ugreen iDX6011 Pro (Notebookcheck review).
The faster Thunderbolt connection should help get more performance out of high-end GPUs like the RTX 5090 compared to USB4. According to Ugreen, it can now allocate the same 64 Gbps bandwidth to the GPU via PCIe 4.0 x4 as OCuLink, which should greatly boost performance for laptops with Thunderbolt 5. More importantly, the new model supports daisy-chaining multiple eGPU docks for accelerated gaming and AI tasks.
With these upgrades, the LinkStation Pro competes directly with eGPU docks like the Minisforum DEG2 (curr: $247 at Amazon), although that model lacks a built-in PSU. Ugreen, on the other hand, includes an ATX 3.1-compatible 850W power supply. That said, the LinkStation Pro can fit GPUs up to 370 mm long and 155 mm tall.
The other major upgrade is power delivery. The Thunderbolt 5 port can now supply up to 140 W to high-end gaming laptops, up from 100 W on the previous model. In addition to three Thunderbolt 5 ports, Ugreen has also added an extra USB-A 3.2 port for accessories, but there is still no M.2 slot or Ethernet port.
Pricing and availability
The Ugreen LinkStation Pro is now available in China for 2,999 yuan (~$447), around the same price as the older USB4 model. There are no official global launch details yet, but if it follows the previous model's rollout, it could reach other markets in the coming months.
