Two new affordable Casio A158 watches with metal strap launch

Casio has unveiled two new Vintage watches: the A158WEA-2 and the A158WEA-7. These latest additions to the A158 series, which started in 1989, arrive a couple of months after the Japanese brand launched a pair of A158-WEM watches with mesh straps.
The Casio Vintage A158WEA-2 and A158WEA-7 watches both have silver colored resin casing, with a matching stainless steel band featuring an adjustable clasp. While the A158WEA-2 has a blue frame around a standard (light background, dark figures) display, the A158WEA-7 has a silver-tone frame around the same screen. Each measures 36.8 x 33.2 x 8.5 mm (~1.45 x 1.31 x 0.33 inches) and weighs 45 g (~1.59 oz).
Casio’s A158 is a digital watch offering 12 and 24 hour time formats. The calendar is fully automatic (28 days for February), with the date and day of the week shown on the display. Plus, there is a green LED backlight to illuminate the screen in low lighting. Tools include a 1/100th second stopwatch, a daily alarm and hourly time signals. These watches are also water resistant for everyday use, and should run for around seven years on a CR2016 battery.
In the UK, the Casio Vintage A158WEA-2 and A158WEA-7 watches will retail for £34.90. They are said to be “available soon”, with prospective customers encouraged to sign up for an email notification via email; you can register using the black button on the product page. These watches have already launched in Japan, where they are available to pre-order. Plus, product pages on the brand’s international website indicate that they could be released more widely in the future.
