The Vera C. Rubin Observatory unveils an image showing more than 500,000 galaxies

While we know that the universe is vast and contains many galaxies, certain images help us to better understand this fact. This was recently the case with the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, which has released an image showing more than 500,000 galaxies.

Published on July 31, 2026, this image shows the Cosmos Field, a region of the universe often studied by astronomers. Although it is actually composed of hundreds of stacked images, each image was taken with the 3.2-gigapixel LSST camera, which weighs 3,000 kilograms.

Thus, it is possible to see different types of galaxies in this photo, such as spiral and elliptical galaxies. Some galaxies that formed shortly after the Big Bang are also visible. Furthermore, this image contains more than 50,000 stars, some of which belong to the Milky Way.
