According to a new report by Counterpoint Research, Samsung’s flagships, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, are currently the best-selling smartphones in the world. This report details the global sales estimates in April.
Samsung released the S9 and S9+ duo back February, with the devices going on sale in March. That considered, it was no surprise that sales numbers at the end of March had the devices below the Redmi 5A on the list of best-selling Android devices—the Galaxies just hadn’t had the time to circulate. In April, however, Samsung’s offerings overtook the Redmi 5A to become the top Android devices, and the iPhone X to become the best-selling smartphones.
Of course, the fact that the iPhone devices have been relegated to lower positions has to do with the fact that they were released about eight months ago, and so are far from their sales peaks on the market.
The aforementioned Redmi 5A finds itself in the sixth postion, below the Samsung flagships and the iPhones, with a 1.5% share. Surprisingly, the iPhone 6 comes in seventh—an impressive feat considering it was released almost four years ago. Eighth position belongs to yet another Xiaomi device, the Redmi 5 Plus. The iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8 find themselves in ninth and tenth place respectively
