Samsung is currently testing its version of Android Pie (9.0) for the Galaxy S9 series in a closed beta. It did not take the XDA long to figure this out, however, or to procure the resulting builds to test for itself. The group now claims to have done so with the latest 9.0 beta for the Galaxy S9. They verified that it was the correct version of Experience (Samsung's skin for Android) as it had the Samsung Beta Services and Samsung Members apps.
This preliminary form of Pie for the Galaxy S9 does not exhibit any particularly novel features compared to stock Pie. However, the XDA was able to report that it now has a fully-working form of night theme. This mode is now baked into Experience 10 (the upcoming, Pie-based ROM for Galaxy phones) natively, without need for assistance from add-ons such as Substratum. It replaces the normal white background for colored (or white) cards in the UI with black, while the cards themselves turn gray, at certain times of day. In previous betas, some of these areas would stubbornly remain white when the night theme was on. However, in this new update, they all turn the desired color.
The latest beta for Pie on the S9 has also fixed the navigation gestures, which were uncooperative in response to some swipes in the older versions. This beta also appears to confirm that the Galaxy S9 line, like some flagships from other OEMs, will also get Raise to Wake in their display settings when they finally upgrade to Pie.
