The Redmi Note 9 series offers some of the best value smartphones on the market but it appears Xiaomi's quality control isn't quite up to par. There have now been multiple reports of defective camera modules that fail to prevent dust from getting under the glass, with Xiaomi acknowledging the issue.

The Redmi Note 9 series is widely regarded as offering some of the best value mid-range smartphones on the market right now, with the Redmi Note 9, Redmi Note 9 Pro, and the other numerous variants offering excellent value for money. It seems, however, that the phones may have an issue.

Going by multiple reports on the Mi Forums, the camera module on the Redmi Note 9 series appears to allow dust get under the glass, essentially rendering the camera useless. Ever tried taking a picture with a dirty lens? Well, this is even worse, as the smear is under the lens. A simple wipe solves nothing in this case.

Xiaomi seems to be aware of the issue, too. A few months ago, Alvin Tse, General Manager of Xiaomi Indonesia, confirmed that the company had, indeed, received reports and would be tightening up its quality control to prevent further cases. Also, those with the issue would be attended to at Xiaomi's service centers.

New cases have been reported since then, but there's no way of knowing if QC has actually been improved since then, or if the new cases are on units produced before the supposed QC improvement.
