OPPO may debut the Snapdragon 860 SoC in conjunction with the Reno 5 series
OPPO's Reno4 phones are mostly distinguished by their on-trend round rear cameras and mid-range specs. It has vanilla, and Pro variants, and is also rumored to gain a Dimensity 800-powered Z 5G variant that is in fact a rebranded A92s soon. Their successors, on the other hand, may step up to a "Pro+" (or "Ultra", perhaps) flagship instead.
This device is also now linked to the Snapdragon 860. This atypical Qualcomm product name has been alleged to be a real-life chipset to be incorporated into new phones soon by the eminent leaker Digital Chat Station. This tipster claims that "Green Factory" (a possible mis-translation of a term for the Chinese OEM) executives were discussing it in a recent meeting.
OnePlus' CEO, Pete Lau, was also apparently present at this event. Therefore, this may be a hint that the 2 OEMs - both subsidiaries of BBK Electronics - are currently considering this rumored 860 SoC for inclusion in upcoming phones. The rumor has been joined by additional claims that the Reno 5 will rock the Snapdragon 775G, an heir to the existing 765G.
As to the 860, it lacks further details on its specs and composition at present, official or otherwise. However, Digital Chat Station did also hint that the upcoming flagship 875 silicon is destined for the same treatment. Therefore, it may indeed be that the top tier of Android smartphones is headed for another dimension of consumer choice in the near future.
