Recent rumors have hinted that Qualcomm will release a 'lite' version of the Snapdragon 875 flagship SoC on its launch. Now, a new leak asserts that this "870" has in fact been secured by OPPO for use in its upcoming devices only. It is said to be faster than the 865, although the two processors may have similar architecture.

Some prior rumors have pointed to new "Lite" variants of current and next-gen flagship Qualcomm mobile processors, in conjunction with the OEM OPPO. At that time, it was speculated that this company would just be one of many (possibly the first) to use these new upper-mid-tier chipsets. Now, the latest tip on the subject suggests that it is in fact the only smartphone-maker to be privy to at least one of them.

It comes courtesy of the Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station, who now asserts that OPPO is testing a "high-frequency" version of the 865. This adaptation has apparently resulted in a clockspeed of 3.2GHz, which is probably associated with the most powerful core or cores of the putative processor.

The 875 is slated to surpass it nonetheless, which may have given rise to the term "870" among media outlets. However, there is no guarantee as yet that OPPO will use this product name should it really have it to integrate into unique devices. These putative phones lack any further indications as to their design or additional specs as yet.
