After months of waiting, Xiaomi has now started sending out the MIUI 12 update to the Snapdragon 665-powered branch of the Redmi Note 8 series, starting with the Redmi Note 8T. Yes, MIUI 12 is here for owners of the global Redmi Note 8T—and the Redmi Note 8 should follow shortly.

While the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 9 have both received MIUI 12 updates in some regions, the Redmi Note 8 has been on the sidelines, ditto its identical twin, the Redmi Note 8T. That has finally changed, however, with Xiaomi rolling out the MIUI 12 update to the Redmi Note 8T yesterday.

The update for the Redmi Note 8T bears the designation "MIUI 12.0.1.0 QCXMIXM", denoting that it's for the global version of the Redmi Note 8T. This is the first MIUI 12 build for the device, so it weighs a hefty 2.1 GB, while delivering all MIUI 12 features and improvements. With the Redmi Note 8T finally getting the MIUI 12 update, we expect the Redmi Note 8 to follow suit shortly.

Meanwhile, the Mi A2 Lite is now receiving the October security patch. The update is rolling out to the global versions of the phone and bears the build number "V11.0.12.0.QDLMIXM". The Mi A2 Lite was released in July 2018 and will reach the end of its official support lifespan in less than a year, just like the Mi A1 did a few months ago.
