Redmi Note 8 MIUI 12 update rollout partly stalls because of OTA issue
It seems almost unsurprising that there would be a problem with the MIUI 12 rollout for the Redmi Note 8 now that it has finally started. The news that the Global model would finally get the update from Xiaomi was only revealed a few days ago, and just as Redmi Note 8 owners celebrated this fact the OTA update has encountered a hitch.
A few Redmi Note 8 owners have already taken to the Mi Community forums to enquire about what is happening with the MIUI 12 update and how long a fix will take. One moderator offered this comment in their response to this problem: “Developers are working on priority basis on the OTA issue”. Another post by a different mod narrowed down the issue to Redmi Note 8 devices using a particular MIUI build:
Please note that MIUI 12 has released to all users of Redmi Note 8 Global and China but the users using 11.0.11.0 Global are facing the issue with the update. If you are using 11.0.11.0 Global ROM, please wait patiently and try to update later.
Although it is possible to bypass the OTA process for updating the Redmi Note 8 Global model with MIUI 12 by manually installing the software, it has been recommended to be patient and check the updater app on a regular basis instead. However, Fastboot and Recovery ROMs are available here if you feel comfortable with updating your Redmi Note 8 manually. Make sure to back-up all of your data before doing so though.
