It’s hardly surprising that some ne’er-do-wells have tried to fool Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 7/7S owners into thinking an official stable MIUI 12 update has become available for their phone. There are all sorts of attention-seeking fakery attempts going on in the tech world, and Xiaomi’s much-desired Android skin is not immune to this kind of trickery.
Thanks to a report on AdimorahBlog, with details taken via a message posted on Xiaomiui on Telegram, users of the Global/India Redmi Note 8 or Global/India Redmi Note 7/7S can avoid the build versions listed below, as they have been listed as fake:
- Global: V12.0.0.6.QCOMIXM
- India: V12.0.0.3.QCOINXM
- Global: V12.0.0.2.QFGMIXM
- India: V12.0.0.4.QFGINXM
According to the Telegram post, these particular fake MIUI 12 build versions are neither beta ROMs for Mi pilots nor stable ROMs for public release. While there have been plenty of whispers about MIUI 12 coming for these devices, especially the Redmi Note 8, Xiaomi has remained reasonably tight-lipped about the proceedings, although it’s likely an official release will occur in October.
