What with the K30 series and all the hype around its Pro variants' launch, a successor for the Redmi 8 seems to have gone by the wayside. A reliable Twitter leaker claims to have heard it is in development nonetheless, and now has concrete SoC and rear camera specs to show for itself.
Sudhanshu Ambhore asserts he has learned from a source that this phone is destined to rock the MediaTek Helio G80 processor. In addition, it will have quad rear cameras in a module quite like that of the higher-end K30. They will be made up of 13+8+5+2MP lenses, which may give the 9 wide-angle, macro and depth-sensing modes.
Therefore, despite this potentially considerable step up compared to the pre-exising 8, it seems this phone may still remain in the budget category in 2020. Finally, the Redmi 9 is now rumored to have at least 2 color options: the shade of purple seen in an image posted by Ambhore, along with an on-trend green option.
