Deal | Microsoft Surface Pro 7 with laughable 4 GB RAM on sale for $599
It's 2020 and high-end Windows PCs are still shipping with 4 GB of RAM for some reason. Do yourself a favor and avoid this one if you intend to do more than just web browsing with a few open tabs.
Currently, Microsoft is selling its Surface Pro 7 tablet with no Type Cover for $750 up to $2300 depending on the configuration. Its lowest-end option comes with the Intel Ice Lake Core i3-1005G1 CPU, 128 GB of storage, and just 4 GB of RAM to be barely enough for Windows 10. Best Buy has dropped the price of this same low-end SKU to $600 and they will even throw in a Type Cover keyboard attachment free of charge with every purchase.
The problem with this deal is that it's very difficult to recommend any Windows PC with 4 GB of non-upgradeable RAM. Ask any good PC builder or IT professional and they are certain to recommend at least 8 GB of RAM even to home users. Unfortunately, Best Buy is not offering similar deals for any 8 GB SKUs as upgrading from 4 GB to 8 GB will entail a final price of $1030.
We suspect that Microsoft is attempting to clear stock of the low-end 4 GB configurations so they can make the 8 GB SKUs the new low-end option instead. Dell used to offer 4 GB SKUs for its flagship XPS 13 subnotebook series as well before rightfully dropping them to make 8 GB the new bare minimum.
