Deal | Premier Lenovo IdeaPad S940 with Core i7 Ice Lake, 16 GB LPDDR4x RAM, 512 GB SSD, and Thunderbolt 3 now on sale for $1000
Ice Lake laptops launched late last year to very high prices. The Razer Blade Stealth, for example, retailed for $1500 USD while the Dell XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 launched for even higher if configured with the high-end Core i7-1065G7. These flagship systems have been dropping in price ever since CES 2020 to lure eyes away from the competing 7 nm AMD Renoir series.
The latest deal involves a Lenovo IdeaPad S940 for just under $1000 USD against an original launch price of over $1800 USD. The S940 is the highest-end model in the IdeaPad series followed by the upper mid-range IdeaPad S740, lower mid-range IdeaPad S540, and lowest-end IdeaPad S340. What's notable is that the sale is for a fully-loaded configuration with the Core i7 CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and a sizable 512 GB PCIe SSD. The only "drawback" is the FHD resolution touchscreen instead of 4K UHD which is completely fine for its subnotebook screen size.
In our review of the IdeaPad S940, we applauded its sleek and sturdy design, powerful audio, and quiet fan noise while blasting its average CPU performance under heavy loads, high surface temperatures when idling, and lack of any integrated ports beyond USB Type-C. The IdeaPad S940 competes directly with other flagship subnotebooks like the XPS 13, Asus ZenBook 13, or the HP Spectre 13.
