Rumour | Xiaomi to launch the Redmi 9a next week featuring a 5,000 mAh battery and dual cameras
The Xiaomi Redmi 8a only made its way into our hands late last year, but it seems that a successor is already on the cards. The Redmi 8a impressed us during our time with it despite its lowly price, especially its class-leading battery life. We were fans of its single rear-facing camera too, along with its modern design, and a comparatively large amount of features.
Now, Manu Kumar Jain Redmi, the Global VP of Xiaomi and MD of Xiaomi India, has confirmed the first Redmi launch of 2020, where at least one smartphone will be in attendance. While the first may be a Redmi-branded powerbank, there have been hints that the second is the Redmi 9a.
Firstly, XDA Developers notes that Redmi is teasing the event, which will take place on February 11, with the same tagline that it used for the launch of the Redmi 8a. Moreover, another teaser of the device looks remarkably like the back of the Redmi 8a. The event page also confirms that the device will have a 5,000 mAh battery and what looks like dual rear-facing cameras. These could be dual front-facing sensors instead, but having more cameras on the front than on the back of a device would be rather odd.
@RedmiIndia has attempted to dissuade people who are predicting that the Redmi 9a will arrive next week, but OEMs rarely confirm the name or existence of a device before it has been officially unveiled. Hence, do not be surprised to see a Redmi 9a appear early next week.
