The OnePlus 9 series may be on upon us, but that is not the only OnePlus-based smartphone news of today. As XDA Developers reports, OnePlus has seeded OxygenOS 11 to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T series, which comprises the OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7T, and the OnePlus 7T Pro. The website notes that OxygenOS 11 is currently on a gradual rollout for these devices, which means that a few devices will receive the new OS first to determine if there are any major bugs that OnePlus missed during testing.
If all goes well, then OnePlus should start distributing OxygenOS to all OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T handsets within the next few days. Disappointingly, OnePlus has included a February 2021 security patch in its inaugural OxygenOS 11 updates for these devices, despite March security patches being available. You can read about what features OnePlus has integrated within OxygenOS 11 on its dedicated website.
Ultimately, the decision to include an outdated security patch in an OS update speaks volumes about how OnePlus treats its older devices. Over five months have passed since OnePlus upgraded the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro to OxygenOS 11, while the OnePlus Nord has only recently received its first OS update too. Meanwhile, OnePlus is yet to confirm when the OnePlus 6 and 6T series will see OxygenOS 11 and Android 11, beyond a vague commitment to giving 'more details later'.
