OnePlus is bringing 50 W wireless charging to the OnePlus 9 series, albeit only to the OnePlus 9 Pro. Last year, OnePlus enabled 30 W wireless charging on the OnePlus 8 Pro with its Warp Charge 30 Wireless Charger. Reviews of OnePlus' first wireless charger were a little spotty though, not least because of its exorbitant US$70 launch price.
Irrespective of its price, the Warp Charge 30 Wireless Charger could only charge the OnePlus 8 Pro in portrait mode and had a short and non-removable power cord. OnePlus' wireless charger would recharge Qi-enabled devices incredibly slowly, too.
Thankfully, OnePlus has addressed these concerns with the Warp Charge 50 Wireless Charger. Undoubtedly, OnePlus' new wireless charger will remain expensive, but it has two coils for recharging a device horizontally or vertically. Additionally, OnePlus has included a removable cable and it has hinted that the charger can recharge other devices at up to 50 W using the Qi standard. The OnePlus 9 Pro can apparently only recharge wirelessly at up to 45 W with other wireless chargers, though.
According to OnePlus, Warp Charge 50 Wireless operates at 20 V/2.5 A, which its 'proprietary isolated charge pump' converts to 10 V/5 A. From there, the OnePlus 9 Pro splits 10 V/5 A across its twin-battery system, providing each cell with 5 V/5 A. This all translates to 25 W being supplied per cell, or 50 W in total. OnePlus has assured fans that it has improved the cooling performance of the OnePlus 9 Pro compared to its predecessor to mitigate any additional heat while recharging wirelessly at 50 W.
