The OnePlus 9 series makes ~US$46 million in 10 seconds on its Chinese-market release
Xiaomi may have drawn a lot of today's techie attention with the second half of its 2021 product mega-launch today. However, that did not dissuade a rival in this space, OnePlus, from going ahead with the release of its new 9 and 9 Pro smartphones in the same country on the same day.
The OEM has announced that it has already netted the equivalent of ~US$45.6 million as a result of this event. Moreover, it asserts that the Hasselblad-branded devices took only 10 seconds to reach this milestpreone. For context, their predecessors the 8 and 8 Pro reportedly took 1 minute to hit 100 million yuan (~$15 million) in revenue on their own first day on the Chinese market.
OnePlus also released its first-gen Watch today in its home market (whereas it is slated for releases in April 2021 for various other regions). It costs 999 yuan (~$153, whereas the vanilla 9 phone starts at 3,799 yuan ($582), with the 9 Pro goes for 4,999 yuan ($766) at least. Meanwhile, their global open sales are still scheduled to begin from tomorrow (March 31, 2021).
