News surfaced yesterday confirming that Taiwanese chipmakers MediaTek, for the first time, surpassed Qualcomm to become the biggest SoC supplier in the market. The company attained that feat in no small part due to the success of its Dimensity series, and it has a new Dimensity chipset, the Dimensity 1200, on the way. That chipset has now been benchmarked, and rather favorably.
On Geekbench, the Dimensity 1200 earned a single-core score of 975. In the multi-core test, it walked off with a handsome score of 3364. The closest competitor comes from Qualcomm in the form of the Snapdragon 870, a chipset that appears to be a repackaged Snapdragon 865 Plus for the most part. The Snapdragon 870, as seen on the Vivo X60 Pro records scores of 1031 and 2998 in the single-core and multi-core tests respectively.
Both benchmarks results compared, the Dimensity 1200 appears to have a minor advantage over the Snapdragon 870, with the Qualcomm SoC holding a 5% edge in single-core performance, but losing out by about 12% in the multi-core test. Of course, the Dimensity 1200 remains half a step behind the Snapdragon 888, just as we saw with the Dimensity 1000+ and the Snapdragon 865 last year.
The Dimensity 1200 is expected to debut on the Realme GT Neo geared for release tomorrow. We'll keep you updated on that.
